As the year draws to a close and takes with it another decade of life, there are certain things that we'll all need to have or hold onto no matter what is to come…

Water: This one is pretty self explanatory…stay hydrated. Let's start the new year and decade with good skin and loads of energy. We are made up of 70% water, our bodies need it.

If you don’t like water for whatever reason, try adding fruit to it or flavoring it in some capacity to make it better. Eat foods with higher concentrations of water (cucumbers, tomatoes, broccoli) to make the medicine go down a little easier.

2. Sleep: rest well. This is a challenge for me as I've grown accustomed to sleeping for just four hours a night. I also cannot honestly say I know how restful sleep feels. I want to change that in the next year because I am no spring chicken and lack of sleep can age you — so, I hear. Thus, I am challenging myself to six hours.

It will be a struggle but rest is paramount to world domination. I'm going to try building a sleep ritual to maximize rest. Unplugging an hour or two before bed. Taking a warm shower, listening to soothing music. It's an opportunity for a true self care moment that many of us miss. Small things like this can increase the quality of the sleep not just the length.

3. Patience: We live in an instant gratification culture. Therefore, many of us expect to get what we want or where we want to be instantly. Overnight success can take anywhere from 10 to 20 years. So, be patient with yourself and others. Understand that we all grow and change at different rates. Furthermore, everyone’s path is different. Be patient with your journey.

4. Unfuckablewithness: This is a principled stand (your driving force)x steely determination. Believe so much in yourself — be so clear on who you are, what you want, and where you are going — that other people’s thoughts/perceptions/successes do not deter you.

5. Focus: according to Merriam Webster, focus is a point of concentration. Many people conflate focus with goals. I would argue that focus is the overarching idea that helps you shape your goals.
